Awareness Theater
Company Members

Joel Bertelson, at 25, is the youngest member of our company. He was born in Burlington and now lives in Colchester. He works at an insurance company but hopes to find another job working with people, computers, and telephones. Joel is a fan of pizza. Currently, he’s developing a piece called "The History of Junk Food" or "How Junk Food Saved My Life."
Robin Shockey, 30, is known fondly to us as "Megaphone Man" because of his magnificent voice. He was born in Burlington, Vermont and now lives in Essex. He often plays the "bad guys" in our shows. He works at Endine Chemical, Special Olympics, and makes rounds during the dark days as Santa Claus. He loves The Awareness Theater Company because it’s fun and teaches people about abuse. We are so happy he works with us.

Emily Anderson, 34, was born in Rochester, New York, and now lives in Burlington. She used to work full-time with The Bread and Puppet Theater of Glover, Vermont. Now she is the director of The Awareness Theater Company, a workshop facilitator for GRACE and an instructor with VSA arts of Vermont. She also acts ad plays accordion with Deep Mountain Group. They are currently performing an original show called, MADSCIENTIST.COM.

Natalie Sinkew, 36, was born in Elmira, New York, and now lives in Burlington. She’s very active in our local Peer Support Network. She works at IDX as a paper shredder and recycler. For fun she walks her dog, Lady Dana, and reads National Geographic in Large Print. The Awareness Theater Company is Natalie’s first experience working in the theater.
Glennis Gold, 37, was born in New York City and now lives in Addison. She used to be a lawyer in Portland, Oregon, and now is a professional mother to a baby girl, assitat director for The Awareness Theater Company and a New Visions Dance Instuctor for VSA arts of Vermont. Her first theatrical experience was as Winnie-the Pooh in a school production that featured life-size cardboard puppets.
Richard Sexton, 61, was born in Burlington, Vermont and now lives in Essex. He graduated from Bulington Highschool in 1960. He worked for Marriot for twenty six years as a dishwasher. After he began receiving services from Howard Communtiy Services, his life transformed. He began illustrating his life through his drawings, working with The Awareness Theater Company, and sorting bottles at Central Beverage. To top it off, he went to New York City in 1998 and changed his name to Ricardo.
Richard Lawrence, at 63, is the oldest member of our company. He was born in Bristol, Vermont, and now lives in Essex. Throughout his life Richard has held many jobs related to rural Vermont living, such as logging, haying, and sugaring. Now, he has the time and freedom to pursue some of his artistic interests. In addition to performing te part of the "Angel" in the Awareness Theater Company, Richard works at home and in the GRACE workshop painting on canvas.
Clark Mackenzie is a friend from the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont who joined us for our revival of The Pigs of Oz. He is a fantastic cook, logger, and housebuilder.
